In the lead-up to the 2017 election, I made the commitment that a McGowan Government would provide $16 million to build a multi-storey car park at Mandurah Station. Since coming to Government, we have delivered on this important project, successfully securing a matching funding agreement from the Commonwealth Government.
The need for expanded parking facilities at Mandurah Station has been an important local issue, with more than 70 per cent of passengers currently accessing the station by car.
The $32 million project will be built on the footprint of the existing northern car park and will expand overall parking capacity by about 700 bays, to around 1800 bays in total. Construction on the project will begin later in 2020.
The project, in addition to a new station at Lakelands and planning for another at Karnup, represents the McGowan Government’s commitment to improved public transport access for residents in Mandurah and surrounding areas. I am pleased that we are delivering on this important project.
